Samsung Unveils Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus with 1.2GHz Dual-Core and Honeycomb

Just days after Amazon let the cat out of the bag and announced its 7-inch Kindle Fire tablet, Samsung is putting the word out that it's getting ready to launch a new addition to is Galaxy Tab line, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. Like the Kindle Fire, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus features a 7-inch form factor, but also comes rocking a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and Google's Honeycomb OS.

These are big boy specs in a little man's form factor and could signal an era of intense competition in the 7-inch Android tablet market. Here's what else the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus brings to the fight:

  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB or 32GB of internal memory (expandable via microSD card slot
  • 1024x600 screen resolution
  • 3MP rear-facing camera with autofocus and LED flash
  • 2MP front-facing camera
  • 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
  • Wi-Fi Channel bonding and Wi-Fi Direct
  • Bluetooth 3.0
  • USB 2.0

Samsung didn't specific HDMI output on the spec sheet, but we're not ready to rule it out since the device supports 1080p video playback. The real question is how much will this thing cost, and so far Samsung is keeping mum. We reached out to Samsung for an update, but aren't holding our breath for a concrete answer.

The Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus will start shipping in Indonesia and Austria at the end of October, and then gradually roll out to the rest of the world after that.
