How To Install Ubuntu On CyanogenMod For Android Phones


Are you a Linux fan and love Ubuntu? Taking it for granted that you are Android phone user with CyanogenMod already installed, you can now install Ubuntu image on CyanogenMod. For now there are two methods available of which one is console only and the other one is GUI based. According to the latest updates on the method from Potoc, Senior Member, at Samdroid, the GUI method is null for now. But he is looking into it and soon we will have it working normally likewise console only procedure.

So, let’s get down to business and see how you can install Ubuntu on virtually any CyanogenMod build.

  1. The first step is to download the tarball from here.
  2. Once this is done, extract the file and copy ubuntu.img file to your desktop.
  3. Now connect you phone to the computer and mount SD card.
  4. Once this is done, copy the .img file to your SD Card’s root.
  5. Now launch Terminal or ConnectBot on your phone and type following commands:
su sh /sdcard/

There you go. You now have a full fledge Ubuntu Image running on your Android phone with CyanogenMod. in case you are facing any difficulties with this method, please consult the officialSamdroid thread here. We are not posting the GUI method for the reason it’s not working and it’s more complicated than this method.
